Anna Maria Jean Atkinson (she/her) is the designer/maker of clothing and swimwear brand ‘Anna Jean Kos’, which takes a slow fashion approach to creating pieces that are made ethically and have a low environmental impact, while also being cool, beautiful and comfy. She chats to Demure about the realities of the industry, and gives some vital tips on what it takes to create truly slow fashion.

Living with Exes

Bridget McArthur’s (she/her) piece, which came out of an uncomfortable experience at a festival on New Year's Eve, includes a conversation with her step-mum on what it was like interacting with/hearing about her partner's ex on a daily basis. The piece prompts readers to welcome the memories (or very real presence) of exes as instructors, and even important contributors to the parts we adore most of the people we love today.

Celeste (she/they), is a musician from Naarm. Known on stage as C ME, they use music as a form of self-expression and discovery, combining all different art forms in their music. C ME uses literature and fashion as creative channels, and currently has two singles out on all streaming services, with four new projects coming in the next two months. We are so excited to hear them!

Amy Baran (she/her) a fashion designer extraordinaire, revisits her childhood with her designs. Presenting intricate and colourful prints, her work has caught the eyes of many, including Vogue Australia, whom recently featured one of Amy’s designs. Based in Gadigal / Wangal country, Amy’s work was recently featured in Vogue Australia.

Madi Sherburn

Madi Sherburn (she/her) is a photographer, videographer and installation artist based in Naarm. Looking at the relationship between the spectator, space and place, Sherburn’s practice examines the intersections between art, ecology and horticulture.

Raising Children

Demure chats to the gang of Raising Children (fka Pearl Blue), the Naarm-based outfit of odd lookers, who merge everything from folk, rock, and music their parents like into one playful sound. Driven by experimentation and collaboration, the 4-piece moves swiftly from intricate 3-part harmonies to jaunty explorations of rhythm, cultivating a versatile body of songs. Drawing from the lineages of Leonard Cohen, Velvet Underground, The Mamas & The Papas and Frank Zappa, the band works to weave poetic imagings through everything they do.

Bonnie Huang

Bonnie (they/she/he) is a multimedia and drag artist from Dharug and Gadigal lands. We spoke to Bonnie about their art, their entrance into the drag world, and the impact of art on their identity, and vice versa.

Tess Hoenig (she/her) shares her fashion collection ‘My Nefarious: More Than Meets The Eye’. Tess hand made all textiles, and creates abstract designs. The collection breaks down the stages of a ‘villain’, Tess’ own analysis of how lived experience can affect ones inner and outer personas.

Cornelia Van Rijswijk

Cornelia Van Rijswijk (she/her) is a freelance artist & designer whose work explores different dimensions both in the physical and digital realms. From 3D graphics, to papier mâché and clay sculptures- Cornelia brings her audiences into the realms of her works.

Gabbee Stolp’s (she/her) artistic practice exists across several mediums, with a primary focus on contemporary jewellery, object-making and textiles. Based in Nipaluna, her works explore human inter-connectedness with nature and examines the current Anthropocene, as human impacts on the environment have become indelible.
