How it began

The brand was born from my collection of vintage jewellery that I had slowly gathered over many years, always meaning to fix / repurpose in some way but never had.

Signing up for a local Sustainability Art market in the beginning of 2020, I finally had the impetus to dive into my treasure chest and found inspiration in the lost, broken and confused jewellery that begged to be brought back to life in a new way.

inspiration

Old things have always inspired me. Forgotten things. Bits n bobs, knick knacks and dusty letters. Pieces of a once loved necklace or a keepsake from a place once travelled. Then, to take these things and find a new life for them in the present.

Amphitrite.jpg

The goddess Amphitrite in Ancient Greek mythology was the goddess of the ocean. However, is more recognised or remembered today as "Posseidon's wife"

She held great power in her own right as the divine Queen of the sea and I was irked by how history had ignored and forgotten her.

This was the inspiration for

Though hard to pronounce (amph-ee-try-tee), Nadia’s jewellery is an ode to her as well as the ocean.

I love most when people find a personal connection with the work I have made, whether it reminds them of something from their own history or it sparks a curiosity about where it came from.

I think honest, genuine connection is all I could hope for.

I love knowing how the pieces live on, in photos or in written feedback.

Making work by hand, whether it's jewellery, collage, painting or any medium, you tend to form an emotional connection with it in some capacity.

Sometimes I find myself becoming attached to earrings I have made and become reluctant to sell them.

I have kept a few special pieces

but I also like to release them so they can venture out and form their own new relationships

with whoever claims them along the way.
