Tell us a bit about how you got started making your signature crochet hats.

My mother initially taught me to knit at a young age, but knitting is such a long process and turns out I’m impatient  pants! I taught myself how to ‘crochet’ for a university assignment, but I was not crocheting in fact but just tying knots  and loops. The initial prototypes for the hats I make now are significantly different! I started by making a simple, boxy  bucket hat and refined the shape, style and sizing from there. It’s still a journey and everything is in constant works,  but I am grateful that with every order, I am given the trust and opportunity to put a bit of myself in every piece.

What inspires you to create?

I would be lying if I didn’t say all the creatives that surround me! I am very lucky to share a studio space with 6 other  artists who are a continuous inspiration. Not only is each artist’s style unique, but we are a mix of mediums in the  space, creating further opportunities and inspiration. I also consume art on the daily, meaning there’s always new  things swarming in my mind. I find less of an issue with what to create, and more so with having too much I want to  create, and too little time!

What is next for your crocheting? I see you are branching out to more areas beyond your hats?

There are so many things I’ve currently got in the works and I’m so excited! I am 100% looking to branch out into  other pieces, mainly bags and gloves currently! I also have two collaborative collections in the works at the moment,  and I’m so excited to be working with other artists and to see what we create!

You have made an impact on the Melbourne creative community, and have many adoring followers (us included!).  How does this feel?

I am constantly overwhelmed by the kindness and love in Naarm’s community! It’s very easy to doubt yourself and as  a chronic overthinker ! I am always second guessing my art. The creative community, and all my friends are so  encouraging and supportive, I am never not grateful.

it seems like this community of unique and loving creatives have become a very strong support network  for many small business creatives we see on Instagram. Do you feel like it has been of help to have such a strong  community backing you?

Not only is it encouraging and supportive, but I am also constantly in awe and inspired by the creative community in  Naarm. The creative community in Naarm is always pushing boundaries and creating the impossible and it’s  encouraged me to stop second guessing what’s achievable.
