postel jewellery epitomises effortless sophistication.

how it began

Postel is a bit of a passion project. I have been working in the fashion industry for a while and loved it, but found myself feeling like I wanted to take the time, to create something that was more me. I was exposed to fast fashion in work and wanted to contribute to slowing down the fashion industry and making products for all genders.

Emphasising the value of a well-made product to the consumer is a goal. I am in a position of wanting to create but not wanting to contribute to issues surrounding the fashion industry. I don’t have all the answers, but I try and design for longevity, through materials and form. I hope that the products I make will be worn for years and valued. I offer free re-polishing and plating services for all jewellery pieces.

Inspiration

The best way for me to design is to take inspiration from what is going on in my life. Often it can be a way for me to express myself emotionally as well as creatively. This past collection was designed during a particularly hard time, following the loss of a pregnancy and the end of my relationship. Each form represents an element of that situation. I drew from that, mainly because it was all consuming and I found it incredibly healing. I have been open with my story, hoping it will create dialog around a still very taboo topic. The brand is very much a reflection of what is going on in my head. I feel a strong connection for sure.

I am currently donating 10% of all my online sales from the ‘impressions’ collection to various mental health charities, to help support my local community who don’t have the support I do.

MOTIVATION

I stay motivated by all the various roles I do within the business. Designing a collection has a nice lifeline of tasks. By the time I feel tired of doing something I am usually ready to start the next phase anyway. I am also still learning a lot and experimenting with new techniques and product ranges.

aspirations

The beauty of jewellery is that it doesn’t conform to the standard fashion seasons. I can release small drops or whole collections when I like. It slows fashion down and makes it more sustainable for me as a small business and for the environment. It also gives me the time to focus of developing new product lines. I am currently working on some knitwear and accessories. All made in Melbourne.
