WHAT IS YOUR WORK ABOUT?
For me, my work is about connecting to the world around me and observing things in greater detail. I find purpose and bliss when expressing through colourful and intentional visuals. While I am currently studying Communication Design (RMIT), my work lives between the bounds of that and art, making my style quite fluid as I enjoy working in a multitude of mediums including photography, collage, typography, pastel sketches, and video art.
INSPIRATION
Nature! Peaceful solitude in a natural environment is essential to my creative drive and intuition, I’m always amazed by the colour and unique details that nature offers. I find that nature has a way of creating positive disruptions by pulling us out of our interests, ideas, and systems and into something that is often humbling.
How has your practice changed over time?
This year I’ve learnt the importance of writing down reflections on my work practice. Whether it’s to unpack a brief, or reflect on my progress, I write about it. This free thinking through essentially brainstorming, allows me to tap into my emotions and thoughts, and subconsciously the creative process. I’ve found it’s an effective way for me to untangle and make sense of the multitude of thoughts and ideas floating around in my mind.
Name three designers you’d like to be compared to
Chloe Scheffe – a Brooklyn-based publication designer, who (I think) is changing the aesthetic game of editorials.
Mestiza Studio - run by two women, Malena and Monica (they do a lot of the graphic design work for Gimaguas, which I am obsessed with)
David Carson – the boss of experimental graphic design, incomparable but a true inspiration to always take risks!
What do you hope the audience will gain from your work?
I hope that my audience can feel inspired by my work to look around and notice the beautiful details of life and the natural world. A meditation in observation - taking time to immerse in a space and notice the beauties in life will bring you joy!
What is next for you?
I plan to gain some intern experience in the industry before completing uni mid next year, and to pick up my client base for more freelance work. ☺
