World of Petals is all about sustainable floristry and creating mini meadow designs.

Similarly, to how we shop for fruit and veg, consumers have gotten used to this idea of having everything available all year round and in perfect condition. We are slowly starting to see a and shift back to seasonal shopping and seeing imperfect produce on the shelves. World of Petals is embracing this movement within the floristry industry also. It’s beautiful to create with locally grown, seasonal and sometimes imperfect flowers. Flowers, leaves, sticks are all natural products which makes them beautiful no matter what!

Find World of Petals on Instagram @world.of.petals and order yourself or a friend, family member or anyone, a floral gesture.

What made you want to pursue floristry?

At the beginning of 2019 I was looking for work and had started undertaking short courses where my goal was to learn a few different skills to tap into the creative industry and find a career. I really wanted a job in a florist, as every flower enthusiast does, but I found it difficult to get a job without the Cert III qualification. So, I decided although it is not a short course, a one year course will be well worth it, and it was. Being a florist is the perfect balance of creativity, hands on work and customer service, for me.

How would you best describe your floral gestures? What is your style?

It is very much meadow inspired. Lots of single stems of different kinds of flowers is a favourite because it gives the eye an entire world to look through. I am still working out my style and I think it will continue to change, but for the moment, I’d say, garden style.

What inspires you in your floristry?

The different seasons, natural forms and the colours of flowers, branches and foliage. I also get inspiration from flowers in movies because it shows designs within the context of a set and costumes.

What is something you wish more people knew about floristry and flowers?

I wish we all embraced ‘seasonal availability’ a little more. Accepting and appreciating that not all flowers are available all year round. In doing so, it prevents unnecessary travel air miles and it takes the pressure off local farmers. It also makes it extra special when your favourite flower is in season. It is like peaches in summer.
