in bed

Eliza’s work is about experimentation and finding new ways to frame and capture the ordinary. She works across a variety of mediums and attempts to incorporate a traditional visual art practice into a digital graphic design space.
The two projects are variations on the same theme - it is very much a lamentation on being in bed. At the risky of sounding wanky, she wanted to explore how one's own bed can become a boundless, multidimensional space.
“It is a canvas of sorts where you express your most intimate and personal feelings. It is where you start and end every day and to me, that feels somewhat sacred.”
Eliza’s has been inspired by many visual and multimedia artists; Tracy Emin, Luigi Ghirri, and Liz Rideal to name a few. She was also inspired by her friends and the cool thing’s they’re creating. Additionally inspired by spending time alone and overthinking - a lot of which she does in bed. Finally sharing that her inspiration of making and using her hands to create something out of nothing.
Eliza hopes to capture the beauty of that unconscious and unaware joy that comes about in those moments when you’re falling into sleep or awakening bleary-eyed in the morning. Capturing that etherial and hopefully, universal mood is really important.
“It’s really about evoking that feminine nurture and intimacy that I feel one's bed takes on”.
As Eliza becomes more confident in her practice she wishes to share more on Instagram and hopefully this website.
“It is such a pleasure to be included in a project which highlights female and queer artists who are using art to carve out social territory in spaces they have traditionally been excluded from.”
