ABOUT THE WORK
My art changes from time to time and I would say there’s not an overarching theme amongst my art, I think why’s most important for me personally is the aesthetics of it all, making sure each drawing is up to my own standard that particular day! My art is about whatever is important to me that day.
The style of the art is somewhat cartoony so I like to explore and exaggerated features of the human body like the waist and the long legs, with the big lips and eyes with the abnormally large hair. I love exploring these features as I believe they make for a really aesthetically pleasing artwork, creating dynamic lines for the eye to follow and just creating an interesting piece overall.
Within the fashion element of my art I explore and return to the body, dynamic lines and subverted basics, so clothing that’s altered to a point of almost being obsolete. Whether it be through jackets, skirts, bodysuits ect ect. I understand and acknowledge how the bodies I draw can be taken as a stereotype as what “ should be “ a woman’s body or what the societal norm is, which is a theme I’m actively trying to avoid in my art, I strive to showcase women in a positive light.
The female experience inspires me a lot, obviously not experiencing it myself but witnessing it and being surrounded by it so often, not strictly the cis female experience by any means but I think it’s inspiring to see that and amplify it through my art is really important to me.
emotional connection to the work
The intention behind my art is obviously to showcase fashion and some exaggerated feminine aspects of the human experience but I think also a major part of it is to express my own femininity and gender. Outwardly, I’m a very obviously cis - make whatever that means to readers but I think being that I am queer and growing up as such around woman identifying people, I’ve garnered a sense of femininity in myself and I think recently being in queer spaces, and being surrounded who unapologetically express themselves has really helped my learn how to express that within myself and my art and obviously as people we are constantly growing and evolving so too will my art as the years come by, and who know in the next few years or months I’ll have a new idea of femininity and what it means to me .
aspirations
I’d love to get into selling prints, taking commission and maybe even eventually design and sew my own collection one day, that would be so incredibly rewarding. The big goal is to one day, unless life works out an other way, would be to have a home studio where making and sharing my art is my job, and I can work from home care free doing what I love. For now, the plan is to evolve my art, design and gain more technical skills as they come. We are always learning so I can’t wait until I get to a point where I’m even happier with my work as a whole.
