Scientifically a large part of feeling connected is physical touch and affection with this in mind my garments explore how they could act as additive measures or replacements of this physical affection, specifically in the feeling of being held. The garments rely on tension, warmth and imitation to convey this touch-like feeling. Encouraging conscious dressing and enabling interaction between the garment and the wearer.
Although these designs point to a general need for connection and the isolation that has occurred over the pandemic the designs take an introspective and personal approach in a way to retain authenticity within my practice. Taking inspiration from my own personal struggle with feeling connected and the inventive measures I found to help myself. Perhaps it could be called a bitter sweet project exploring self soothing.
The project hopes to posit softness and sensitivity as a strength through stylised therapeutic qualities whilst raising awareness related mental health issues.
